Project Goals- Create for film festivals a short film with a deep emphasis on storytelling

Challenges- Creating a festival quality project with a limited budget, short timeframe, and small team

Solutions- Break group into smaller teams to accomplish each aspect of the filmmaking process- writing, storyboarding, production, and editing. Set and maintain quick timeline by setting frequent team meetings to ensure proper understanding of goals and means necessary to achieve them. Oversee each group to see that all work is being done in a timely and quality manner, but without being an overbearing presence cutting off creativity of team and individuals. Provide consistent creative direction throughout every step of the filmmaking process and maintaining consistent communications within and between teams.

Darkroom

Short Film

Project Goals- Create spatial study of photography dark room. Explore the elements and characteristics of the space while also telling an enticing story. Utilize montage, freeform camera, and extreme closeups to create visual interest in the space while concealing something about the room, then use a master shot at the end to reveal the secret.

Challenges- Shooting video in extremely low light, storytelling without dialogue

Solutions- Create artificial light by turning on dark room light tables, setting camera settings to allow maximum light capture, embrace the grain created by high ISO by going for old school film noir aesthetic. Utilize dark and spooky nature of the room for storytelling purposes, play with light and sound to keep a secret of something happening in the room to lean into horror themes of storytelling.
